Spanish Alternative Certification Program

First exam: 613 Languages Other Than English (LOTE):

 Passing this exam entitles the candidate to begin the job search in school districts in Texas. Bilingual Educators prepares the candidate, with a course to take this test. If the student is out of Houston, TX, he/she must travel to this city to take the official state exam.

General:

-Content: Listening Comprehension, Oral Expression, Reading Comprehension, and Written Expression.

-Exam preparation.

-When: The test is offered by the state of Texas, 6 times a year.

-Cost of course: 650.00.

-Cost of test: $120.00

Second exam: 160 Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (P.P.R.): Required to obtain the standard certification; has up to one year after starting to work to take it and pass it.

-Content: Professional and teaching responsibilities.

-Preparation: Included in this course (online).

-When: The test if offered throughout the year by the state.

-Number of questions: 90

-Cost: $120.00

COURSE CONTENTS:

1. Training:

-Workshop: Job Interviews: Learn how to prepare your resume, cover Letter and steps for a successful job search in the school districts (6 hours).

-Workshop: Lesson Planning: Help new teachers get ready for their first day of class.

-Workshop: Classroom Management: Create a classroom management plan using a varieties of strategies.

-Workshop: “My First Day of Class”, basic rules of discipline and school routines (6 hours)

2. Registration to the ACP (Alternative Certification Program) and online preparation course for the PPR that contains the following modules:

-TEKS, TAKS, and Instructional Planning.

-Test Construction and Education Measurement.

-Effective Teaching Strategies and Enhancement of the Classroom Climate.

-Multiple Intelligences and Special Student Populations.

-Special Education and Inclusion.

-Effective Classroom Management Strategies.

-Technology in the Classroom.

-Language Acquisition and Language Development.

-Multiculturalism and the Diverse Learners.

-Motivating Students; Effective Communication Skills.

-Age Level Characteristic and Learning Styles.

-Human Development Theory; PDAS and Teacher Effectiveness.

-The Teacher, the Law and the Code of Ethics.

-Test Taking Strategies; and any other topic as deemed necessary.
